ReplyDeleteI feel like the word companion would be used when referring to someone who is always there for you. A companion is a very good friend. I think a buddy is someone you can joke around with, but is also a very good friend. A buddy I think would be close to a companion, but maybe less serious of a friend. An acquaintance is somebody who you know but are not close to. I feel like an acquaintance is someone who you would recognize and say hi to, but don't know very well. A colleague I think is used for mainly friends that you work with, serious friends. A playmate would refer to somebody who you can hang out with, but are not super close to. I think a confidante is someone who you are extremely close with, someone you would turn to for advice. A compatriot I feel is someone who you simply have something in commmon with, like a neighbor.
ReplyDeleteCompanion implies someone of equal rank who you spend a lot of time with and are close to. I would use companion to describe someone that I would accomplish a task with or someone I do things with. Buddy is very informal and somewhat childish. I would use this to describe someone I've been friends with since childhood or use it in a joking manner if someone was acting silly. Acquaintance is very formal and shows detachment. I would use this to describe someone I know, but am not very close to. Colleague is also very formal, but implies that you work with someone or are around them often in a formal setting. I would use this to describe a classmate or coworker that I was not particularly close to. Playmate is very childish and informal. I personal would not use playmate, but it could be used to describe a child's friend. Confidante implies the sharing of secrets so I would use this to describe someone I am very close to who shares secrets with me and I him/her. Compatriot is someone who shares the same country as you. I would only use this for someone who was also a citizen of the U.S., but also shared the same sense of national pride as myself.
ReplyDeleteI would refer to my pet or some other inanimate object as a "companion". I would use the word “buddy” to refer to someone that was maybe a friend who was younger than myself. Someone who I have a few classes with but I am not really friends with I would consider to be an “acquaintance”. When I think of the word “playmate”, I think of someone who I used to be friends with or usually referring to children's friends who they typically spend more time with, or maybe just someone who they interact with but do not actually confide in. I consider a “confidante” to be a person who is trustworthy, more mature, and someone who I can talk to about anything and not worry about being judged. I have never heard the word “compatriot” before but apparently it is a synonym to friend. I researched the meaning and I would consider this to be someone that would be my neighbor.
ReplyDeleteWhen referring to a companion I would think of a new friend, or a friends friend. A buddy is someone you are close to and can joke around with. An acquaintance is someone you would talk to but not necessarily hang out with, maybe sit with during class. A playmate is someone you can have fun with and usually referred to when your younger. A confidante is someone you can trust to not go around telling your secrets. A really close friend who you can trust. A compatriot is just anyone who was born or resides in the same country as you, such as any American.
ReplyDeleteI would use the term companion when a person is accompanying me somewhere. I would call someone a buddy when he or she is not a good friend but I would feel guilty about saying that. An acquaintance, in my opinion, is a person who I do not know well but I am on good terms with. A colleague is a person with whom I work, whether or not I like them as a person. A playmate would be somebody that I can have a good time with, without worrying about consequences. A confidante is a person that I can trust whole-heartedly without fearing that they might tell somebody else my secrets(I need a new one....). A compatriot is a person who lives in the same country as me. I, like most everybody else, looked up the definition for this one.
ReplyDeleteA. A companion is a friend who will follow you whever you go. If i were to go on a quest or adventure i would call the person who comes with me a companion.
ReplyDeleteB. A buddy is someone who will is a friend who you can mess around with. I would call a friend a buddy when you are playing video games or horsing around.
C. An acquaintance is a friend who is someone who you have not come in to contact with often, but you will still call them a friend. I would call someone an acquaintance if i were called for school project and partnered with someone i somewhat know, but i still know them as a friend.
D. A colleague is a friend of work. I would call someone a colleague if i work with them at a job or other event.
E. A playmate is a friend who you play with all the time. It is someone who you can play anything with, but it is mostly refered to when you are a small child.
F. A confidante is a friend who will keep everything you say to them a secret. I would call someone a confidante if i could talk to them about anything and they would not tell anyone else.
G. A compatriot is a friend who would do anything with you till the end. I would call someone a compatriot if they were to follow me and stay with me if i were to save someone from a mass murderer
I would use companion when I was referring to someone I talk with at school or other particular events. A companion isn't someone I would spend my weekend with, but more of just someone I have small chats with. A buddy to me, is someone that has something specifially in common with me. Such as a walking buddy, or study buddy. An acquaintance is someone that I was once very good friends with, but are no longer. We may not be good friends anymore, but we still have occasional chats and can hang out and not dwell on us not being friends anymore. A colleague to me, would be like a teacher. Most of my teachers I get along with really well and am able to have conversations outside of school with them, making the relationship a little more personal. A playmate to me, is someone very young. I would call someone a playmate when I was 4 years old, not when I'm 17. Nowadays I would maybe use playmate for two dogs that are friends. A confidante, is someone I can go to with all my drama and spill every last secret to. A confidante is usually someone that I am very very close, considering they hold all of my deepest secrets. This type of friend is someone I can spend a lot of time with. A compatriot to me, would be anyone that shares living in America with me. I don't often use this word, but if I did, I think I would use it for possibly a complete stranger living here in the US.
ReplyDeleteI would refer to someone as a companion when I am talking about a pet. I would refer to buddy when i am talking to someone in a playful sarcastic tone while talking to one of my friends. I would call someone an acquaintance when I am talking about a person that I talk to occasionally but do not really know them on a personal level. I would refer to someone as a colleague if I was talking about someone I work with. I would probably not refer to anyone as a playmate. I would refer to someone as a confidante if they were someone I went to for advice. And I would refer to someone as a compatriot if I was talking about someone who is very dedicated to their country.
ReplyDeleteI would use the word 'companion' when referring to someone that I am dating or married to.
ReplyDeleteI would use the word 'buddy' when referring to someone I am very close to. The word 'acquaintance' would be used to describe someone whom I've met a few times but don't really keep in contact with. The word 'colleague' would be used for someone whom I work with. 'Playmate' would be used for a small child in like day care or preschool. 'Confidante' would be used for someone whom I can tell all my secrets too, kind of like a bestfriend. Finally, I would use 'compatriot' when referring to someone whom is of the same nationality.
The list of synonyms can be used when describing many different types of people we have in our lives. I would use to word "companion" when talking about someone who is not necessarily a close friend, but not necessarily an acquaintance. I would use the word "buddy" when talking about a person who is closer to me than a companion is. When using the word "acquaintance", I would probably be describing a person that I know and have spoken to, but not someone that I talk to on a regular basis. A colleague to me would be someone that I work with or do business with. When using the word "playmate" I think of using it in context with children and when talking to them to describe someone with a word they recognize. When using the word "confidante" I would be talking about a person whom secrets are told to and someone who is trusted. When using the word "compatriot", I would be using it to describe someone who is a part of a country, but is not known to me.
ReplyDeleteA companion as someone that is just there for you. They might not always know what is going on, but they are willing are there for you.
ReplyDeleteA buddy is someone who is almost like your sidekick. I think of a buddy as someone who
An acquaintance is someone you might know the name of, but not much more. They are pretty much strangers except on a few occasions you might notice their presence.
A colleague is someone who you work with. You should get along with them, but you might not necessarily want to be best friends.
A playmate is merely someone you hang out with. You probably hang out, but don't really know each other in a deeply emotional sort of way.
A confidante is someone you can trust. You tell this person everything and they tell you everything. A confidante might help you through tough times and let you know everything will be okay.
A compatriot is someone you might not necessarily know. Basically what you have in common is your country of residence.
I would refer to someone as a companion when I spend time with them and I like them, or maybe if they were a animal. A buddy would be a friend that I spend a lot of time with, but they are not my closest friend. An acquaintance would be someones that i have met a few times. A colleague would be someone that I work or go to school with. If i were younger I would have a playmate, someone that would be fun to play with it. A confidante is someones someone that you can confide in, and trust with your feelings and thoughts. A compatriot is fellow citizen, you live in the same country and possibly share their beliefs but are not very well acquainted with them.
ReplyDeleteI would refer to someone as a companion if they were someone that I spend time with and share a friendhship with. I feel like this word has more of a mature feel to it, so if I were 30 years old I would say my old friend from when I was younger was my companion. Then I would use the word buddy when refering to someone who is not an extremely close friend but I spendtime with them and possible laugh with. This has more of a childish connotation. Then I would call someone an aquiantiance if I had just met them a couple of times and maybe did not share a huge relationship with. This also has a more mature connotation. I would refer to someone as a collegue if I attend school with them, maybe know their name or face, but not have much more of an indepth relationship with that person. Next I would use the word playmate when refering to children. Children have playmates that they simply play together but they do not have strong emotional ties with. This could be used for teens and adults for people where they only have fun around but do not have many other conntions with. Then I would use the word confidante when refering to someone that I trust to have secrets with. This would be a very close person and would be used in a more mature way aswell. Then lastly I would use the word compatriot for someone that I do not know at all, but we are citizens of the same state. Thus we share the same since of nationalism and brotherhood even if we had not met before. I would not use the word very often but it would be more in a serious or even patroitc sense.
ReplyDeleteA companion is someone who one spends a great deal of time with. A companion could be members of my soccer team because I spend so much time with them. A buddy is considered to be someone who is a friend, but one could not share great secrets with. For example, some people that I am freinds with at school are buddies because the only extent to our friendship would be in school. An acquaintance is someone who one has a slight friendship with, but not anything spectacular, much like a buddy. I consider a colleague to be someone who a person knows through school. Playmate to me can only be used in certain situations and usually is only used describing two very young friends. A confidante can only be used to describe a friend who someone shares a deep secret with. Perhaps their friendship is only there because of the private matter that can not be shared. Lastly, a compatriot is someone who is a citizen of a country along side another person. For example, anyone in the United States is a compatriot to me.
ReplyDeleteI would use the word companion for someone who I am near a lot because I have to be. Like, someone who Isee at school everyday and without fail will talk to when I see, and will even address them sometimes outside of school. would use buddy for a pet or younger child because it seems to be a more light term. Obviously you cannot have deep or heavy conversations with a younger child or a pet. I would use aquaintance for someone that I talk to to on a need-to-know basis. I would call a colleague someone who goes to the same school with me or works with me. A colleague is someone that I tolerate. A playmate would be a term I would use for two children that are friends because once you get to a certain age it is not play anymore they become a confidante. A confidante to me, is someone that I go to for everything, and my confidante has never changed. A compatriot is a term I would use for someone who lives in the same general area as me. I may not have ever directly spoken to them, but we may have heard of each other, so that when we do meet it is like we already know each other.
ReplyDeleteI would describe a companion as someone who stays by you no matter what. A buddy is someone who is kind of your friend but not very close. An acquaintance is a person you don't dislike but don't really like either. A colleague is a person who you work with but is not really your friend. A playmate is a person who you hang out with when you are young. A confidante is a person you tell your secrets to. A compatriot is someone who lives in the same county.
ReplyDeleteIf I were to ever use the word companion I'd probably associate it more with business partners or people who have been friends for a long time and possibly live together. I would probably use buddy to describe someone I'm close with and have been good friends with for a while. Whereas for the word acquaintance, I associate someone whom I know little about, and haven't known very long, briefly encountered, or sometimes I even use the word to refer to someone who I don't really associate myself with. Colleague I think of as someone who I would work with or for in a certain area of business. Playmate I used more when I was younger and was referring to my friends at the time who I would often have "playdates" with. I associate confidante more with someone who I have known for a long time and trust. When I think of the word confidante I think of trust, and someone who you can tell everything to in complete and utter confidence. Compatriot, I feel like is very similar "to partner in crime". Someone who you do something of a particular interest with.
ReplyDeleteWhen i think about the word companion, i think about someone who is not necessarily you're best friend, but more of a person you know who you are friendly to eachother. A situation in which i would use this word is after meeting someone from a new school who i have not yet gotten to know, but that i know of. A buddy is someone who is friendly and is like a partner. I would describe a buddy as being a partner for group work at school or on a sports team. An aquaintance is more of a formal term for a friend, such as a fellow classmate who you've only met once. I would use the term acquaintance when describing someone who i know of, not about. A colleague is more of a nice fellow classmate such as someone in the same school or job profession as you. A playmate more describes a childish friend when you were younger or someone who lived across the street in which you could play with. A confidante is more of a person who you are able to confide in with secrets. I would use this term to describe a good friend in which is reliable and trustworthy with secrets. A compatriot could be defined not so much a bestfriend, but more of as a fellow American such as a well-spirited neighbor or nice coworker.
ReplyDeleteFor the word companion, I would think a of maybe someone's pet for example a dog. A lot of people say that their dog is their companion. For buddy I would consider that a friend that you may hangout with sometimes but you would not consider a close friend. Acquaintance is someone you may be around for example one of your classmates. They may not be a friend or close person to you, just someone you are around. A colleague is someone you work with. They could be on the same level as rank as you or maybe higher. You may not know them that well, but you are still in the same setting doing the same thing. A playmate could be someone you have fun with. Someone that you are able to let loose and have no worries with. You may do your favorite things together because you share the swame interests. A confidante is someone that you are able to trust. Someone you can tell a secret or maybe ask them for advice. It is someone that you are able to trust with you personal information and whom you are able to speak with about personal issues. A compatriot is someone who is from the same place as you. Maybe someone who has the same nationality or you live in the same country. You may share the same patriotic views as they do.
ReplyDeleteI would describe a companion as a person who is with you through all experiences. A buddy would be a person who would hang out wiht you on the weekends or at the mall. An acquaintance would be a person that is brought along with a friend of mine to my party even though I do not know them. A colleague is someone that I may be paired with for a project by someone else's choosing that I do not normally work with. A playmate would be a teammate on my soccer team. A confidante would be someone who is responsible and I could easily be able to tell them anything I may be having trouble with or is bugging my emotions. A compatriot would be a person in my class but I would hardly never associate with.
ReplyDeleteI consider a companion a long-time friend that has been with you through the ages. A companion could be a friend who has known you for many years. I think a buddy is a term that loosely refers to a more distant friend. However; a buddy may help you if you are in need. I consider an acquaintance to be someone that you know of but you do not share personal information with. For example some coworkers in different departments could be acquaintances. The word colleague reminds me of a student, or someone you went to school with. Another word for colleague could be a peer. A playmate is a childhood friend. Two toddlers could get together and have a play-date while their mothers chatted. A confidante is someone that you put your complete trust in;for example a husband or a wife. A compatriot would play the role of a sidekick. If you were a robber, then they would be by your side during the robbing.
ReplyDeleteA buddy is someone who I would most likely only hang out with at school. An acquaintance I see as someone who is in my class, but I do not know them very well. I see a colleague as someone who I might be working on a project with in a class, and a confidant as someone who is closer to me, who I can tell things to. I see a campatriot is someone who you just simply have something in common with. I see a companion as my best friend, someone who I spend a great amount of time with, and who I can tell anything and everything to.
ReplyDeleteA compainion is your significant other.A buddy is a friend that casually hangs out with someone that likes their company. An acquaintance is a friend that you are not very close to but you are still friends with them. A colleague is a friend that works with someone that believes they are equal in socail ranking. A playmate is a friend that likes to play with you. A confidante is someone you tell your secrets to. A compatriot is a friend with you because you come from the same place as them.
ReplyDeleteI would refer to somebody as a companion, if they were someone who went places with me on a regular basis. To me, a companion is someone who tags along with you on all of your adventures, so the name fits. I would refer to someone as a buddy, if they were someone I hung out with all the time. I believe that saying someone is your buddy is the same thing as saying they are your friend. An acquaintance, would be someone who I did not really hang out with on a regular basis. To me, being acquaintances means that two people do not do much more than just say hi in the hallway. I would refer to someone as a colleague, if they were someone that i only saw at work. I would refer to someone as a playmate, if they were someone who I use to play with all the time as a little kid. A confidante, would be someone who I could talk to about anything. They would be the person that I would be able to tell anything to, without fear of them telling someone else. A compatriot, would be anyone who comes from the same background as me.
ReplyDeleteI would call someone who I spen a lot of time with a companion. I would call a friend a buddy. An acquataintance would be someone I know but do not spend a lot of time with. I would call someone I work with or go to school with a colleague. I would refer to a childhood friend as a playmate and someone I could trust a confidante. I would call someone who is very loyal a compatriot.
ReplyDeleteI would use the word companion to describe a friend that I am with all the time (or dog). I would use the word buddy to describe one of my friends that I hang out with. I would use the word acquaintance to describe someone that I just met that I didn't know very well. I would use the word colleague to describe someone that I worked with or went to school with. I would use the word confidante to describe someone that I felt like I could trust and tell important secrets. I would use the word compatriot to describe someone that I see in school but I do not know anything about.
ReplyDeleteI would say that a companion would be someone that you spend a lot of time with and you really like. A buddy would be like someone who you kind of hang around with and talk to but you are not as close to them as you are with others. A acquaintance would be someone you talk to but you don't really know them that well, they are just there pretty much. A colleague would be someone that you work with. A playmate would be someone that you like to have fun with or for example when you were little you probably always had a few certain people that you always played with. A confidante would be someone that you would go to for advice and that you would talk to about you life and they would be there for you. A compatriot would be someone that you don't really know but you both stand for the same thing.
