This article is titled "Wah? Facebook Wants You to Pay $100 to Message Zuckerberg" and it discusses how Facebook wants to charge $100 for people who are not friends with the CEO to send them messages that would be sent directly to their inbox but if they want too avoid the fee then the message would be sent to the "other" folder in their mailbox.
I think this is a really strange idea. I mean I always thought that the CEO of Facebook was friends with every account, kind of like Tom on Myspace. So it was news to me that we weren't all friends with this Mark man on Facebook. I think this is just a ridiculous idea because I mean, I'm sure he doesn't really read his inbox 24/7 so there is really no need to message him because it would cost money. They say it's because they're trying to make money from the social networking site but I really don't see how this would be effective.

  2. http://shine.yahoo.com/parenting/kate-middleton-baby-called-8220-princess-8221-female-190400758.html

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are due to have baby in June, and the Queen just proposed an amendment to make it so that no matter what gender the odlest child is, it will be heir to the throne of England, and that a daughter would be granted the name Princess, and be refered to as "Her Royal Highness".
I think this is really great, women around the world have been and still are fighting for equality with men, and this is another step forward. I'm glad that the queen has recognized that it is fair that if their first born is a son and he is the heir, then a first born daughter should have the same opportunity. It's defnitely a more modern idea.

  3. http://www.foxnews.com/health/2013/01/11/kentucky-boy-recovering-after-pit-bull-bites-off-nose/
This article explained how a little boy in Kentucky got his nose bitten off by a dog. The doctors were able to find the nose in the dog's stomach and were successful in reattatching it. The owner of the dog said that the dog was not violent until this occasion.
I found this article very interesting in the medical aspect. The doctors were going to have to completlely reconstruct a nose but the fact that they were able to salvage the nose is astouding and that they found it quickly enough that the dog had not digested it. The child was very lucky to have recovered from this. It just goes to show that at heart most animals are wild so when they are prevolked bad things can happen to innocent people.

  4. I read an article on a California shooting. It told of a boy who was convinced by a teacher to drop his weapon with only one student shot, but not killed.
After reading this article it makes me have hope. After the newtown shooting it seems more teachers have been aware of these situations and this teacher seemed to have a way with the kids. He knew what to say to this distraught student with a gun and ammunition in his hands to get him to stop. Maybe after this more teachers will not conclude they need a firearm in their classroom, just persuasion techniques.

The article I read was titled "Agreed, Baby Pandas Are Cute. But Why?" I found the article very interesting because it made complete sense to me. Researchers have come to the conclusion that adults find baby pandas cute because they have similar personality and physical traits. The article stated,"There is considerable evidence that these things are what are known as innate releasers to our parenting instincts." I really enjoyed this article because I could definitely see how parents could think pandas are cute since they do have similar traits as the children that the parents have raised.I find it interesting that scientific evidence and research can back up such a simple argurment that one might never think relates to science.

I watched a video about a boy who went to Taft Union High School. He planned to shoot a few people at the school & even had a hit list of who he wanted to kill. He had been kicked out of the school the previous year, but was let back in this school year. Although he did not kill anybody, he did injure one student. I think that this boy could possibly have a psychological problem or that it could be related to how he recognizes emotions. I do not know what I would do with a child that has a hit list with multiple people on it. I think this also helped him get a reaction, because maybe he does need help.

This article is about a christan pastor who was supposed to swear in Obama during his inauguration. He was forced out of this job after a serman surfaced of him teaching that homosexuality is wrong. I believe that it was wrong for this pastor to get forced out of his position just becasue of his stance on homosexuality. His stance is a very common christian stance and I feel he is getting punished for what he believes.

  8. http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/story/_/id/8833076/tim-tebow-new-york-jets-not-jacksonville-jaguars-plans-new-gm-says

The article goes further into the free-agency situation revolving around former New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow. After a season of failure for the New York team behind quarterback Mark Sanchez without Tebow involved in any picture, Tebow is a free agent. Many believed he would end up in Jacksonville with Jaguars, close to his alma matter at the University of Florida. However, the Jaguars have declared they no interest in Tebow believing they have a better chance to win with quarterbacks Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne. Tebow brought plenty of excitement to the league and to the Denver Broncos last season taking 1-4 team to the playoffs with many fourth-quarter comebacks. This is what I see of the situation. I'm sorry but the Jaguars aren't going to be winning anytime soon with Gabbert or Henne which doesn't draw the fans. Bringing Tebow in will bring excitement back to the league and to the Jacksonville franchise drawing in the fans to watch. I see it as you might as well bring him in to raise the excitement which will raise sold ticket numbers, merchandise, and you might actually which he has proven he can do. Possibly, the Jaguars can bring money and W's to the organization and maybe get the best of both worlds. #FreeTebow

I read and watched a video about a college that went through various and multiple scenerios about shooting. They taught the students how to react if a shooting were to take place and what the typical but not-so-effective responese are. I thought this was a great idea with the events at Sandy Hook and I think that if they could eventually put such training to use in public schools then this training would be worth the time. Many of the people said they felt more prepared for this situation if it were to happen. I would feel safer and more comfortable if we did something that in our school.

  10. http://www.cnn.com/2013/01/11/justice/california-school-shooting-teachers/index.html?hpt=us_c1

The article i read was about a highschool boy who had brought a gun to school and shot one student while threatening more lives of the students. A teacher was looking down the barrel of the gun but persuaded the young man to put the gun down before he shot anyone else. I think its interesting how even though the Sandy Hook ELementary School shooting had just happen, more and more shootings are becoming popular around the country. It seems as if more attention is brought onto a certain horrific tragedy, the more that tragedy occurs afterwards. Most of these shooters and killers want attention and that is their whole purpose for going to such extreme events like bringing a gun to school. Although the student shot was a survivor and was taken to the hospital immediately, he and many of the other students are scarred for life. I feel as if more gun laws need to be passed as to where mentally unstable teenagers do not have access to them (such as stealing them from their parents). Any ways, why does any average household need a shotgun? For protection? I thought that is what our police system is for.

  11. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/11/science/earth/extreme-weather-grows-in-frequency-and-intensity-around-world.html?hpw&_r=0

This article was about the differing weather all over the world. China is experiencing their coldest winter in 30 years while Brazil is experiencing extreme heat. Eastern Russia temperatures have dropped to -50 degrees while bush fires are raging in Australia. The Middle East was hit by a storm bringing rain, snow, and floods and the US experienced its hottest year on record. Omar Baddour stated that while we see extreme weather occur every year, it is unusual to experience this many instances of it in one year. Baddour also stated that these occurrences are happening more often and with more intensity. This weather has resulted in many deaths and billions of dollars in repairs.

  12. I read an article about the seasonal flu virus and the effects it has had around the nation. The flu is still rampant, so harsh that there have been 20 fatalities. It is still possible to find vaccinations, however; customers may need to call more that one pharmacy. It was reported that seven million doses of the vaccine are still yet to be administered. The drug companies are unable to formulate additional shots because they are already in the process of making vaccinations for next flu season.

  13. I read the article by BBC about the US flu outbreaks. It discussed how this year many more people have gotten the flu than last year. The article mentioned how Boston even issued a public health state of emergency. It ended by discussing ways people can prevent spreading the flu and arm themselves against it.

I haven't really realized that the flu is worse this year in comparison to last. I think that since it is mainly on the East Coast for now it has been kind of out of mind. I'm hoping that it won't spread here or at least by the time it does we will have a good way to treat it. I also think that as students we are very vulnerable to germs and diseases since we are in such close proximity to numerous people. I also thought it was interesting reading about issues in the US from the British perspective and also reading their writing and seeing how it differed from ours.

  14. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/11/flu-outbreak-47-states-widespread-activity_n_2456459.html

The article I read talked about the fact that 47 of the states in the US are reporting widespread flu activity/infection rate. The flu activity is considered "high" in 24 states, moderate in 16 states, and low or minimal in 10 states. The report finds that deaths from pneumonia and flu are "slightly above epidemic threshold"; since October 10th there have been almost 4,000 people hospitalized for the flu. At least 20 children have died as well. Researchers have noted that the flu is more severe, and the rate of people infected is one of the worst in histories.

While I was reading the article I found myself becoming really concerned and worried. I believe it struck even more of a chord because of the unit we're starting and the discussion we're having about the plague and other extreme situations. Personally I believe that the flu problem in the US will continue to worsen over time due to the new medicines being introduced and the resiliency and growing strength of the flu virus.

  15. http://www.cnn.com/video/?hpt=hp_c4#/video/us/2013/01/11/tsr-pkg-moos-invisible-driver-prank.cnn

The video that I watched was about an aspiring magician who made a suit that resembled one of the seats in the car that he was driving. He would then drive around town and go to fast food joints and order drive-threw. When he pulled up to the drive-threw window, it would look like no one was driving the car, and the workers would freak out. It was a pretty funny video to watch.

I honestly thought that this was a pretty cool video to watch. The fact that someone could make a suit that looked like a car seat was just astounding to me. It really does look like no one is driving the car when he pulls up to the window. Watching the video really makes me want to try to pull of something like that.

The article I read was about the man that had just won the lottery not too long ago over in Illinois. The article said that he had recently died from natural causes. However, after one of his family members came to authorities and told them they had suspicions, they went further in and found that he had been poisoned with cyanide
I think this truly explains how America is these days. I think that we cannot be happy for someone else for any sort of accomplishment. We always have to try to do better than the next person, and if we can't, we simply just want them gone. This man was planning on donating the money he won to St. Jude. People need to stop being jealous.

  17. The article I read, "Had a flu shot? You'll be OK -- maybe", on CNN was about this year's flu strands and whether or not the flu vaccination is successful. The article started with a description and explanation of the two most common types of flu that is spreading throughout the United States this year. They are H3N2 and H1N1, I liked reading this part becuase I enjoy reading about health related topics and about diseases. I thought it was interesting that they can pinpoint what the two most common flus will be of the season. The artilce then went on to explain about how successful the vaccine actually is. I thought this was interesting because you always hear people promote the vaccine but rarely explain wheter it actually works or not. The article said that even though you get the vaccine, one can still catch the flu, however, the vaccine can help with the symptoms. This was helpful because it is good to know that the vaccine can help with more than just prevention.

  18. http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2013/01/11/lindsay-lohan-was-drinking-and-driving-popping-pills-during-canyons-filming/

This article discusses the recent "activities" of Linsey Lohan and her role in "The Canyons", I new movie that is to be out sometime this year. The article talks about the director and other cast members' concerns about Lohan and her ability to fullfil the agreements of the movie. Lohan has already been fired from the role for missing scheduled meetings and then was given a second chance. Lohan has been caught aggressively drinking and popping pills and the cast fears they will have to let her go. I personally am almost tired of hearing about Lisney Lohan. She has constantly been in trouble with the law and in jail multiple times. It seems to me that she is incapable of learning a lesson and being able to control herself. She is a walking wreck and should probably be locked in a padded room for the rest of her life. It is sad to see such a star at one time to go down such a tragic path.

I read an article called the 10 most valuable corvette. What this article mainly talked about was the pricing and interesting facts about what the car had in it or what made it so valuable. I thought this article was pretty cool because right now I am working on a 1969 corvette, that used to be a piece of junk, with my grandfather. As of right now we have been working on the car on and off for about 4 years. I truely wandered if the corvette might have been one of the those top priced cars, but I will have to look and see.

  21. I read about a new musical opening up on Broadway last night. The musical is titled, "The Other Place" and it was said to be very interesting. They wrote that it was a brain teaser in a way, and proposes several problems. The character Juliana, self diagnoses herself with a brain tumor and the story seems to spiral down from there.

I thought it was really intersting to read a review on something I'm definetly interested in. I liked that this musical wasn't meant to be cheesy like most, but very dramatic and confusing.

The article that caught my attention was about a new Broadway drama that recently premiered. According to the author of the article, the show is full of twists and surprises, and it will make you constantly rethink what was previously told as fact previously in the show.

I find this interesting because I do not often hear about new shows coming onto Broadway. I would like to see the show because it sounds extremely entertaining and full of terrific performers.

  23. I read a story about a man who decides where each stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and which celebrities are nominated for the position of the stars. He states that he is the man celebrities managers and/or agents are either extremely nice to or are very threatening. He stated that when celebrities stars are not placed in the greatest spot on the Walk of Fame the managers and/or agents can get very threatening. He also states that sometimes they make little jokes of the postitions of a celebrities star such as Carol Burnett's star is place infront of a theater in which she had gotten fired from earlier in her carrer. Another point that he makes is how big a deal these stars actually are stating that the star alone costs a nearly $30,000

The article I read was about a high school shooting in California on Thursday. They said that the student that was the shooter had targeted two students because he said that they were bullying him. He came to school late that day and was said to be acting nervous. He had brought a shotgun with him that is said to be his brothers. A few students were taken to the hospital. One was in more critical condition and the others were just suffering from small injuries such as hearing damage, so everyone is okay. The shooter is in custody being questioned and whatnot. The kids name has not been released yet. Authorities are still investigating the issue.

This article was about a new species of frog that can fly. The frog was just recently acknowledged as a beeing a new species. The article is pretty short and doesn't talk about the frog much. It just explains how this frog lives too close to civilization and could be a sign of destroying too many forests. I thought it was pretty boring.

The article I read was about a New Jersey teenage boy who was diagnosed with a rare disease called Mucha-Habermann. His parents first noticed his condition when he was in 8th grade. They thought he was the only one in the country with this condition. The condition cause lesions all of the body. Doctors found a very odd treatment for this disease. He has to go to the tanning bed every day for 8 minutes and then take a pill every night before bed. They say the the UV rays help stop the development of the lesions on his body. The tanning also makes him healthier. He said that this is just a small bump in the road and that he will get through it. He also says that people all over the world have to deal with much worse. He seems to be very optimistic, despite his rare disease.

  27. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michaellevin/why-books-suck_b_2421618.html?utm_hp_ref=books
Books are being printed with less and less important information because the object of printing books has shifted. People aren't after actual information when reading books because they can get free information online. As a result the contents of books now "suck."
I read this article because I love books and I was curious to see why the author had this point of view. he has a valid reason, but from a faulty standpoint. He was only taking into account books on current events. Amazing books are being printed everyday. Yes, the online book industry is hurting printed books, but books are continuing in a digital direction. People who read for fun will still be able to find books, just in a different form.
