  1. Labor and work for the most part can be defined the same. My understanding of the words is that labor means putting more effort into one's work. Work is often done at school, in sports, and in a profession. Although labor can be done in these places too, it simply means that one is working harder and striving to go above and beyond for it to be considered labor. It does not take a certain type of person to use labor every day. It simply takes the right mind set and attitude to acheive what one wants. When a person labors and strives to make something happen, usually the outcome be better. Labor and work can both take place whenever a person simply decides to put in effort.

  2. Lady...women. I believe that they word lady refers to someone that is younger, but is very appropriately mannered. A lady always behaves her very best, and she knows what she wants. A women seems to be older, and is very wise. She also is very ladylike and knows how to behave in the public eye. She has more experience with being a lady though. I believe the word lady would be used by a mother or any sort of maternal figure to explain to her daughter how she should be have. Young women should always behave like a lady. Lady could also be used when describing a young girl with very good manners, and she knows how to handle herself in the public eye. When I hear the word women, I think of my mom or grandmother. They have much more experience than me with being and acting like a well-behaved person. A women and a lady both seem to mean the same thing, that you should act your very best in order to impress or please others around you. The words Lady and Women are often used in different contexts though. It depends on your personal definition of the word.

  3. The word Gang often refers to different groups of violent people, typically males, and it is looked at as a condescending phrase. Gang, is often used to describe people when crimes have been committed by them or they are in the spotlight. They have certain guidelines on membership and from what I've heard (I'm not in a gang, duh.) they are very strict about getting out of the gang and most of the time you are not allowed to drop out of the gang.
Whereas, a club is a different thing entirely. There are many people in a club but they are able to drop out whenever they want if they are too busy or have other circumstances. Club's are typically people who have common interests and they are typically non violent. The word club is often used to describe groups at school that are sponsored by the school. Club is typically seen as a positive thing and a good thing for college applications whereas, gangs are not considered to be a good thing.

  4. There are many similarities between the words art and craft. When people think of the word art, they think of more exotic paintings and famous buildings done by well known artists. When people think of crafts they think more of a little project a kindergarten student would make. Most people think of art as being more detailed and taking years to complete. More people think of crafts as common projects that almost anyone could do in their free time.

  5. The two words that I am choosing is gang and club. The word gang had gained a neggative conotation because groups of people who do bad things are considered a gang. It is usally used when this group uses violence against others of sells drugs or others activities of that nature. A club on the other hand has a more positive conotation because it is viewed as more of a get together than an illegal group. If a person is part of a club than they seem to be more social and intelegent than a person who is part of a gang. Even it is a that some do not agree with, like a fight club, it seems more leggitamite than a gang because of the conotation gangs are given.

  6. gang...club. A gang is normally used to decribe a group of poor men that participate in unorganized crimes together. A club is normally used to describe a group of well mannered people that get together on certain occasions and share a common intrest. Normally gangs exist in poor regions of large cities. Different gangs do not like each other and sometimes start fights with each other. Clubs are normally at schools. Clubs and gangs both have leaders. Gangs exist because some poor people want to be a part of something where they can have friends and make money. Clubs exist so students can socialize and talk about the interest they share.

  8. A woman is more strictly gender rather than charactersitics. A lady is a woman who is polite, intelligent, aware, and well-rounded. A woman is not necessarily always a lady. One does not become a woman until a certain age while one doe snot become a lady until they have reached a certain thought-level. You can die a woman but not a necessarily a lady. Becoming a lady is something that requires effort and is not just the inevitable. I think it is more admirable to be called a lady and not a woman. Usually when one think of lady they think proper and intelligent while a woman can be an array of things. A woman can be unintelligent, rude, and loud.

  9. Intelligence and being smart are often confused because they have similar meanings, but are they really synonymous? Intelligence is being very knowledgeable whereas being smart includes making the right decisions. Intelligence could then be compared to book smarts and being smart could mean being wise. Any one can remember facts in order to look intelligent, but only people who use their common sense are smart. On the other hand someone who knows relatively little could be the wisest person you know. On many occasions these two go hand in hand. A lot of people who know about dangers use their common sense to avoid such situations. Someone who spends more time with books than with people could be socially awkward and could hurt someone's feeling by something they said. They didn't think it through or even realize that it was hurtful, because they aren't smart; they're intelligent.

  10. Religion is one's personal beliefs. It is by what means that person worships and to whom he or she is sending their praise to. Some people think the world religion is similar to the word cult. In essence it is the beliefs at one follows, but cults are more commonly characterized by their extreme nature and possible unorthodox elements. They are often grouped together in a negitive sense. For example if a person is Christian, they may refer to differnt religions as a cult because they do not see the appeal in their extremest elements. People have been degrading other religoins for centuries and it will most likely contiue. However, to be more specific it could be used when comparing to differnt religions in class or gossiping with a friend. It is unclear why people are always talking down on other religions. It should be good that people hold strongly to ideals. However, the word religion and cult often do go together. Every person is guitly of judging religions in this way. To be more specific many people that are extremeist in their own religion would be more likely to use these two terms together and not just accept that many people have many differnt beliefs.

  11. The words intelligent and smart are extremely alike, yet the true meanings are different. I think being smart is simply knowing things, whereas being intelligent is knowing things and being able to use that knowledge. More sophisticated people would use the word intelligent. They would say it when talking about a person who is knowledgeable and can use the knowledge. They would use it to make themselves seem more intelligent than they are, or to describe a person's superb knowledge. Smart is a more commom term for a learned person. It would be used anytime to simply say that a person has knowledge.

  12. Although many people would consider a lady and woman to be the same thing, there is a huge difference between the two. Every lady is a woman, but not every woman is a lady. A lady is a woman with class and sophistication. They know how to behave in all situations and always do. I think a woman is just a broad term for a gender. You are either a man or a woman, but being a lady is more than just a title. I think today finding a woman that is a real lady is hard. Today's society is filled with women who do not care what people think of them or how they act. They are inapproriate in every way. I feel like being a lady used to be more of a common thing, but now women don't care how they present themselves to others. I think more people need to realize the difference between the two terms and decided which title they deserve more. I think the term lady is much more of a compliment to be called than a woman. The main difference between the two is that one must earn the right to be called a lady, but many people are women.

  13. In my opinion there is much distinction between the words gang and club. When I think of a gang the words threatening and scary pop up in my mind. Gangs are more along the lines of a bad reputation. A club is often thought of as cute, and motivated. The difference is the way peoples minds are set to process the words. Society has put out that gangs are serious and bad to get into, while clubs are looked highly upon.

  14. gang...club
The distinction between the two terms above can be very diverse or not. From my point of view, a gang is a group of delinquents that may or may not mean harm, but can cause trouble. A club can be associated with many different things such as activives inside or outside of a learning environment. A gang could be used in many ways but could be used incorrectly and could come off as a bad term, but a club seems more safe and sound instead of the term "gang". When using the term "gang", people are generally talking about their group of people. When using the term "club", it could be used when describing a group that does specific things, such as reading or writing or discussing. These two terms are used to describe the type of group the person is involved with, and whom it may be used by can vary vastly. The term "gang" is most likely used by delinquents or people who are describing their group of friends. The term "club" would most likely be used by the people who are involved in that particular club.

  15. The word pair I chose to use was art and craft. To me, a craft is something that anyone can create physically using any type of resource any time of the day. When i think about the word craft, i think about children and how they use crafts and projects to express themselves in a fun, process-learning exercise. Children use crafts to pass the time, while art is something that can take as much time as you need to create it. To me, the word art means a more sophisticated way of using certain crafts to express emotion and feeling into a specified audience. In my belief, crafts are more created for the purposeness and self accomplishment of ones own being. On the other hand, art is created for the artist AND a certain audience to enjoy. True art has a more sophisticated and mature era about it which cannot be created by just anyone. Reaching deep inside of you and finding that raw emotion is what makes art so special and unique.

  16. The main distinction between recreation and play is their why aspect. Recreation is for example a hobby. It is something in particular that someone does on a regular basis to spend their free time. Play on the other hand is requires just doing anything. It doesn't always have to be a hobby or something that is done on a regular basis. People just do it. They just play. Also, it would seem recreation is used more by adults to describe their activities where as children would use the commonly known term play. Recreation usually involves why someone considers the enjoyment a certain activity. Play people just play it whithout necessarily considering the enjoyment of it.

  17. The words intelligent and smart, to the average person may seem very similar, but in fact there are differences that can be found between them. People use the word intelligent to measure knowledge but often use the word smart to refer to general knowledge. For example,if someone turns onto the wrong street they may say that was not a smart decision. Likewise, just because people make silly decisions does not mean that they are unintelligent. I feel scholars give value to the level of intelligence as to where the common folk compares peoples' levels of knowledge based on one person's "smarts" to another.

  18. When I think of art I think of an artist who has had years of experience, and had created this amazing piece of art. When I think of a craft I think of a little kids activity that is not that hard for the majority of poeple to accomplish. I think of art as a high level of experience thing to create, and a craft as something that does not require much skill at all.

  19. Art vs. Craft
To me an art is something that a person has perfected. It is something they put their time and effort into. I believe that art should cause awe in someone, it is something that should cause people to appreciate the world. Art is created by artists, but not all people who consider themselves artists have great enough talent.
A craft is something more of a hobby. IT typically takes less skill and is not as perfect, yet the person should greatly enjoy doing whatever their craft is. The purpose of a craft is typically more for function and usefulness. At the same time, most crafts tend to be eye catching and pretty too. A person who does a craft is more of your everyday person; they maybe skilled in a certain area, but have yet to perfect or dedicate enough time to their discipline.

  20. Gangs and club are two very similar words in that they both stand for a group of people who believe or want to do the same thing. They also in that same sense have different meanings because of their noted actions or activities they do.
Gangs are seen as a heinous group of both male and female who decide to partake in the same violents and/or destructive acts. They are often seen for their muderous ways of killings memebers of othger gangs to gain "territory" or revenge. Clubs on the other hand or usually seen as school based groups of people who want to do the same thing. They are not bad people they are anyone from students to adults who like similar activities.

  21. The word pair I chose to use was Gang...Club..
I think a gang is a group of people, male or female, who do bad things. Today's stereotypical view of a gang is just a group of people who are out on the streets fighting, killing, doing drugs, creating drama etc. Today on movies and on TV you see a lot of gang fights with shootings, stabbings, etc. Most gangs have a name that they go by that they have all decided on and go by. A lot of times on movies I see they leave their gang name or symbol drawn on somewhere where they have been or after they have done something. There are different types of gangs and they all do different things, not all bad things, but to me when I hear the word gang i think of what I said earlier. A club is different. There are clubs at schools, churches, etc. Most clubs have a certain purpose or are just there to have fun with, like as a hobby. There are certain clubs like, Student Council, French Club, Key Club, Dance club, etc. etc. Lots of clubs have fundraisers or benefits to them. To me, clubs are a good thing to look into. I think teenagers are the people who are most concerned with it right now because of school and being involved.

  22. Intelligent...smart

I think that intelligence, is based on how a person uses their brain. A smart person, has the knowledge, and the ability to learn. An intelligent person uses their smartness to exceeding heights. They are always wanting to learn more, and use their knowledge to the best of its ability. Although, I am not saying a smart person isn't intelligent, I am perhaps saying that an intelligent person always wants to learn above and beyond, whereas maybe a smart person would rather just be done with school as quickly as possible.
A mother may call her son "smart", whereas the same mother may call Einstein "intelligent". I also think it has to do with the age, not to say a young adult can't be intelligent.
I think anyone can be "intelligent", it depends on how you use the education given and how you want to succeed in learning more. Although, not everyone can have just pure "smart"ness.

  23. A lady in today's standards is usually an immature female. The word lady would be used when describing a high school or early years of college girl who is usually unmarried. The word lady has a younger, less wise connotation. We even see mother's call their daughters "young lady's". I think that in most cases of when the word lady is used is when a woman is talking about a younger female. The word woman in today's usage usually describes an older more wise female who probably is married. Ladies everywhere are slowly but surely becoming women. If you are a woman you are seen as a more mature individual and have grown out of your "young adult" livestyles and habits. It would be much more uncommon for a "woman" to not have a job than a "lady". There is not only an age barrier between the two words but also life experiences that divides the two.

  24. I have chosen 'religion' and 'cult'. I have chosen them because most people find some religions to be very "cult like". For example, the Wicca religion was thought to be a cult because of its different styles of doing things. Cult is thought to be very bad, where as religion is thought to be very good.

  25. To some people, the words terrorist and revolutionary may mean the same thing: someone who causes causes and instills fear in a targeted group. However, to me, the two words have very different meanings. A terrorist is someone whose goals are only to inflict pain and instill terror in his or her targeted group, while a revolutionary is someone that fights for what they believe in or fights for something that he or she believes needs to be changed. Something that I've noticed, is that when there is a dictator who is being opposed by a group of revolutionaries, the dictator often refers to the revolutionaries as terrorists. By referring to the rebels as terrorists, the dictator hopes to lessen the suppport that the rebels may receive by referring to them with a negative connotation.

  26. Gang...Club.
To me, the term gang is normally associated with violence. They cause shootings, they do drugs, and get involved in very bad things. I think that most people would be scared of a gang. It is not something that someone can just join because they want to or think it would be fun. A club is something that anyone can join and it a bit nicer than a gang. There are many clubs at school, churches, etc. Most people associate clubs with being a good thing and positive. Clubs should have a good influence and impact on you, whereas gangs probably do not teach you the best things or will help you succeed in life.
